• Quality enhancement has the broader aim of influencing the processes themselves so that they are improved and constantly developed to yield increased efficiency internally and compliance with the changing expectations externally.
• Nationally there has been a maturing in the quality assurance area over the last ten years. In Scotland the Funding Council (SHEFC) and the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA), have ensured that all Universities have good quality assurance systems. They have moved on from checking and audit to include Scotland-wide enhancement and review initiatives. Thus for example, detailed subject review is wholly the responsibility of the University, and our review systems will be scrutinised in the institutional reviews conducted by the QAA.
