What is Computing and IT
?
Most computing courses tend to focus on software engineering, database design, network systems, computer hardware, and the Internet, but there are plenty of options to specialise in specific areas, such as artificial intelligence, cybernetics, biological computation, graphics and animation, quantum computing, cryptography, theoretical computer science, and multimedia and games design.
What will I study?
Sample modules:
Computer Communications and Networks
Artificial Intelligence Methods
Discrete Mathematics and Algorithms
E-Media Design
Computer Systems Architecture
A strong background in maths and physics is essential as most theory will touch on both subjects.
Why study Computing and IT
?
Computing/IT degrees are highly flexible and can be combined with business, management, history, psychology and languages.
There is generally a heavily practice-based focus, there are often opportunities to spend one year studying at a university overseas, and some universities offer work placement schemes.
Students usually develop strong analytic and reasoning techniques and confident communication skills.
