TESOL

What is TESOL?

TESOL is short for ‘Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages’, it is also known as TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) and is aimed at educators wishing to concentrate on teaching the English language to non-native speakers at a variety of levels, from primary through to adult education.

What will I study?

Sample modules:

  • Teaching Languages
  • Practical Approach
  • Structures of English
  • International Education
  • Although the major modules concentrate on the structures and elements of the English language, such as grammar, phrase structure, phonetics, and vocabulary, it is important to note that TESOL courses aim to teach students not English, but rather how to teach English.

    Why study TESOL?

  • TESOL courses are highly practical, involving interactive workshops, microteaching, and practical activities to help you gain as much experience of teaching as possible before graduating.
  • UK TESOL degrees are internationally recognised so graduates are able to find work around the world.
  • Many students combine the study of TESOL with another language, and spend a year abroad as part of their degree.
